Suggestive of mobility, portable cooktops can be moved around and used in any location, not necessarily compact, as is normally the case with other portable appliances.

Equipped with legs or stands, portable cooktops can standalone and facilitate cooking almost anywhere, provided there is an energy or fuel source like gas or electricity supply.

Portable cooktops will generally need to be placed on a platform or stand and will have to leave some clearance from the base to avoid excessive heating up of the base.

However, not infrequently, they also come with a single burner or hot plate, particularly when intended for outdoor use or for use by singles and bachelors who do not envisage much cooking.

Factors to look for in portable cooktop reviews would include the various temperature options and the controllability of temperatures, particularly in single burner/ plate models. With single burner models having only one warming zone or burner to service all needs, these models may stand the risk of generating just one level of heating.

While gas operated single burner models may allow for control over temperature through the use of knobs/ valves regulating the amount of gas, electric models will need to be checked for the type of heating filament being used and whether alternate filaments are present.

Electric cooktops generating heat through the passing of electricity through coils, filaments or halogen of appropriate resistance, multiple filaments with varying resistance is what is required for generating heat of varying intensity/ temperature.
